A week ago we headed up into the mountains for a few nights. Until this year my son has rarely seen a campfire. For the first time in what feels like forever there were no fire bans, no mapping this years burns, no radio interruptions listing the evacuations. So we had campfires, lots of them. With complex fire pits that were rearranged each time to create: a better cooking surface….better s’mores…..better light.
There is just one more long trip planned for this year and I’m already missing the easy calm that inhabits me when we are out in wilderness.
No embers were left burning anywhere but in the fire circle in the making of these photos.
